PREMIER LEAGUE

THE PROBLEM:

  • With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we are hearing from several areas that practice time might be scarce.  With that in mind, teams need to snag gym space wherever they can get it.  This will increase the need for weekend games, as any opportunity to practice during the week shouldn’t be hampered by a single-game league obligation.

THE SOLUTION:

  • Oregon Amateur Basketball in partnership with the PAC in Salem and Capital Field House will be offering a league/tournament format this winter that is loosely modeled after English League Soccer.

DIVISIONS:

  • Boys and Girls: 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th Grade.

ELIGIBILITY:

  • 4th Grade is open to school and non-school based teams.  5th through 8th grade is only available for school-based teams.

THE TOURNAMENTS:

  • Teams will participate in 4 tournaments from November 27-28 to February 5-6.  Teams would get to select which 4 events they want to participate in.  The required culmination tournament is February 12-13.  This is a total of 5 weekends for 18-20 games.  Teams will play 4 games per weekend at every tournament with the exception of culmination weekend.  The culmination weekend bracket is single elimination; however teams are guaranteed between 2-4 games on Culmination Weekend.

THE LEAGUE:

At these tournaments, teams would be entered into pool-play games Saturday against other league teams.  The Saturday games would count toward: 1) League standing and 2) Sunday bracket play.  Through the course of the 4 tournaments, 8 games (Most often the Saturday games) would count toward league and tournament play.  In the tournaments, the Sunday games would be straight bracket play.  Teams also have the option to register simply for league games and not be obligated to full weekends.

ARE THOSE OUR ONLY 2 OPTIONS?

  • NO!!!  Teams can play in as many tournaments as they wish.  They can also select the Premier League and incorporate tournaments into it as desired.  As is the hallmark of our programming, teams can schedule as many games as they deem appropriate and we will make it work!!!

CULMINATION WEEKEND – Culmination weekend will be held Super Bowl weekend in Salem (February 12-13).  The top 8-12 teams in each division will play for the season championship.  All other teams will be entered into the 2-game “Quick Qualifier” event in either Salem.  All games will be complete by 1 pm Sunday.  Only league championship games will be played on Sunday.  All other teams are Saturday only.

STATE TOURNAMENT BERTHS – There is no state tournament for 4th grade teams.  All teams that qualify for the culmination bracket in 5th through 8th grade will receive a bid to state.  Girls State Tournament is February 25-27.  Boys State Tournament is March 4-6.  Both state tournaments will be held in the valley this year!

THE COST – $900 per team.  Covers the 4 tournaments of your choice and the culmination weekend tournament (18-20 games).  This price would go down if your program is part of a group package that receives a lower rate.  For Saturday only games and culmination weekend, the cost is $595 (10-12 games).
